Today marks the 90th anniversary of the start of World War One, so I thought I'd post a photograph of my Great Grandfather, Alexander Horne Thomson. He enlisted with the Kings Own Scottish Borderers at Berwick Upon Tweed and entered the war on 17 September 1915 when he was posted to the Balkans. To date, I don't know a great deal more about him other than that he was killed storming Pip Ridge on the Doiran Front on 19 September 1918 - twelve days before the Salonika campaign ended. The accepted family story is that he was shot in the shoulder by a sniper, something I aim to substantiate in time. The detail on the right is from Andrew's medal card.
