The floor was taken up in the front room for the first time in a very long time this morning. One piece of original timber revealed a mummified rat underneath, who probably last saw the light of day when old Queen Vic was still doing the rounds.
Curiously the workmen who discovered the rat thought it appropriate to re-bury it where he lay. Orders to remove the offending rodent from the premises were swiftly given. And to think all the children have unknowingly crawled just inches above a piece of Victorian mammalia. Nice.
