About Scott And His Research
Scott began researching his ancestral past in the winter of 2001, less than three months before his last surviving grandparent – Alexander Wishart, died in Edinburgh. He remembered the words his late friend, the American actor Adan Sanchez, who was of Apache Mescalero descent, spoke to him in the 1990′s:
“The trouble with Europeans is that they don’t know who they are, because they don’t know where they’ve come from, so how can they know where they are going?”
Before he died, Scott had several conversations with his grandfather about his antecedents, and along with a small family tree his father and grandmother had compiled in the 1980′s, mailed all the information to Jack Wishart – genealogist at the Wishart Society. A few weeks later Scott suddenly found himself with family he never knew about.
Intrigued by the list of names and dates, Scott decided to dig deeper and find out more about his blood relations. Within a short period of time he widened his research interests and looked into the surnames of his three other grandparents. To date he has identified 1284 blood relatives and 140 direct ancestors.
